GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — Eddie Pierce has succeeded Mike Justice as football coach at Gulfport High School.
The 52-year-old Pierce became interim head coach when Justice suffered a heart attack during the Oak Grove game.
Pierce led Gulfport to seven straight victories to get into the state playoffs. The Admirals lost in the playoffs to Hattiesburg.
The school board approved Pierce's hiring on Monday.
Pierce coached at Jones Junior College for 16 years, including the last six as head coach.
Justice retired in January.
