HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Jerrelle Benimon scored 17 points to lead Towson to a 57-50 victory over Hofstra Saturday in Colonial Athletic Association action.
The Tigers (15-13, 10-5) led 21-19 at halftime after going scoreless for nearly seven minutes. Hofstra (6-20, 3-10) led by six points early in the second half, but Towson reasserted itself. The Tigers led 49-41 with 3:32 remaining and got their fifth win in six games.
Hofstra (6-20, 3-10) has dropped nine of its last 10.
Benimon got scoring help from Marcus Damas (11 points). Damas hit 5 of 6 from the foul line to help Towson take a decisive edge at the stripe. The Tigers hit 13 of 24 free throws. Hofstra was 8 for 11.
Stevie Mejia had 13 points and seven steals for Hofstra. Moussa Kone added 11 points, but Taran Buie missed all 11 shots from the field.
Towson outrebounded Hofstra 41-25, including 12 offensive boards.
