OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Ashley Bruner had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and South Carolina rediscovered its defense in a 62-47 Southeastern Conference victory over Mississippi on Sunday. The Gamecocks rank fourth in the nation in scoring defense, holding opponents to 49.0 points per game, but were beaten 78-74 by Kentucky on Thursday night.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Danica Patrick has won the Daytona 500 pole, becoming the first woman to secure the top spot for any Sprint Cup race. It was the biggest achievement of her four-year NASCAR career. Patrick went out eighth in the qualifying session Sunday and covered the 2½-mile superspeedway in 45.817 seconds, averaging 196.434 mph.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jasmine Hassell scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Georgia defeated Florida 62-57 Sunday, ending a streak of nine wins by the home team in this Southeastern Conference series. A jumper with 1:56 left by Jasmine James, who had 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs, broke a 55-55 tie, the 10th deadlock in the game.
