PURVIS, Miss. (AP) — Lamar County School District will lease a vacant building near Oak Grove High School for use as a weight room and boys' locker room in place of the baseball and football field houses that were destroyed in the Feb. 10 tornado.
The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/WYPXuQ ) that the school board approved the lease this week for $4,500 a month. The building is owned by Petro Motors.
Superintendent Ben Burnett says the district will use about two-thirds of the 20,000-square-foot building.
Burnett says female athletes will use a modular building for their needs.
The board also voted to replace the tornado-damaged roof at the high school at a cost of $738,500.
