PHOENIX (AP) - The NFL is looking to make the Rooney Rule more effective after eight available coaching jobs and seven for general managers did not go to a single minority candidate. The Rooney Rule was named for Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney, who steadfastly pushed the league to require every team to interview at least one minority candidate every time there is a coaching or general manager opening.

UNDATED (AP) — NFL teams continue shopping in the free-agent market. The Redskins filled a hole in their secondary by agreeing to terms with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback E.J. Biggers, and the Houston Texans have re-signed unrestricted free-agent cornerback Bruce McCain to a three-year deal.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods addressed the media on the day before opening round play of the Arnold Palmer Invitational gets under way in Orlando, saying that winning the tournament and returning to No. 1 would be very gratifying after the struggles he's been through. Woods also say he and girlfriend Lindsey Vonn went public with their relationship this week to head off what he calls the "stalkarazzi."

CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — Just days after losing the No. 1 ranking she held for 109 weeks, Yani Tseng (YAH'-nee sehng) has withdrawn from this week's LPGA tournament in California. The defending champ overslept and missed her pro-am tee time this morning.
