NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Anthony Davis outreached Kevin Garnett and Jeff Green for a last-second tip-in, and the New Orleans Hornets snapped a four-game skid with an 87-86 victory over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. Davis was playing despite missing the morning shootaround with an illness, and finished with nine points and eight rebounds.

PHOENIX (AP) — Sean Payton is trying to guard against anyone within the New Orleans Saints' organization subscribing to the notion that the team will return to its playoff form of recent seasons just because he's back. Payton, who took part in NFC coaches' media availability at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix on Wednesday, says the Saints did a lot of things that prevented them from winning last season.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gonzaga certainly won't catch anyone by surprise this year. Long ago considered the plucky underdog, the Bulldogs come into this year's NCAA tournament top-seeded in the West and with the No. 1 ranking in The Associated Press poll. Led by 7-foot center Kelly Olynyk, Gonzaga opens the tournament Thursday against Southern University.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Jonathan Mills scored 16 points, Neil Watson added 15 and Southern Miss beat Charleston Southern 78-71 Wednesday in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament. Southern Miss led for nearly the entire game, but struggled to put Charleston Southern away until the final minute.
