SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A March Madness warm-up turned into a great escape for Gonzaga. The Zags got pushed to the limit by Southern on Thursday, pulling out a 64-58 victory in the closing minutes to avoid becoming the first No. 1 seed to lose to a 16 in the NCAA tournament. Kelly Olynyk led the Zags with 21 points. They play No. 9 Wichita State on Saturday.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Kenny Boynton and Erik Murphy arrived at Florida not too long after the Gators won consecutive national championships. They are down to their last chance to get one for themselves. Boynton and Murphy are part of the only Florida group to win consecutive outright SEC regular-season titles. The seniors have been to the NCAA tournament every season, this time as a No. 3 seed in the South Regional.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Saints re-signed linebacker Will Herring to a one-year contract Thursday. Herring was released earlier this month. Acquired as a free agent in 2011, he played in all 16 games last season, starting one, and was credited with 13 tackles and one forced fumble.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — An outside expert investigating the cause of a partial power outage during Super Bowl XLVII has confirmed that the failure occurred because of the "misoperation" of a relay device. Utah-based forensic engineer John Palmer released his findings Thursday.
