SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks have snapped a modest two-game losing streak. Shawn Marion had 25 points and 12 rebounds as the Mavericks won 117-108 over the Sacramento Kings. The Mavericks scored 41 of their points in the second quarter and 99 over the final three quarters. They still trail the Los Angeles Lakers in the chase for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have beaten their former star Josh Hamilton in their home opener. Ian Kinsler hit a go-ahead single with two outs in the eighth inning as the Rangers topped the Los Angeles Angels 3-2. Hamilton was a five-time All-Star for Texas who joined the AL West rivals in the offseason.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Dallas Stars have halted a three-game losing streak, thanks to some unexpected heroes. Alex Chiasson scored his first NHL goal and Lane MacDermid netted his second in two games since being promoted from the minors. Eric Nystrom also had one short-handed. The Stars beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-1.
