Richmond jailed after threat accusation

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — Former University of Illinois basketball player Jereme Richmond is back in jail after being accused of threatening his probation officer and refusing a drug test.

The 21-year-old Richmond was locked up in the Lake County Jail Friday. His bond is $250,000.

The News Sun in Waukegan reports (http://bit.ly/ZMLJHn ) Richmond is accused of telling the probation officer Thursday to "be safe" before using his hand to simulate firing a gun. He also is accused of refusing a drug test. Richmond attorney Lawrence Wade said Richmond is innocent.

Richmond was sentenced in January 2012 to 18 months of probation after pleading guilty to unlawful use of a weapon. He is due in court May 1.

Richmond was selected Illinois' top high school player his senior year and played one season at Illinois.
