ARDMORE, PA. (AP) — Luke Donald played the final five holes of his rain-delayed first round in 2-over par to complete a 2-under 68 at the U.S. Open this morning. That left him one back of Phil Mickelson. Three-time champ Tiger Woods also couldn't get anything going, finishing up a 3-over 73.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — After wrapping up a three-game sweep of the Yankees yesterday to extend their home-field winning streak, Oakland welcomes Seattle to town tonight. The AL West-leading Athletics have won 11 in a row at home and 21 of their last 26 to open a two-game lead over Texas.

HALLE, Germany (AP) — Roger Federer hardly broke a sweat in pitching a shutout to roll into the semifinals of the Wimbledon grass court tune-up in Halle (HAH'-luh), Germany. The top seed took just 39 minutes to dispatch Germany's Mischa Zverev 6-love, 6-love at the Gerry Weber Open.
