(AP) — Adam Plutko limited Mississippi State to a run on four hits in six innings, and UCLA survived some anxious moments to beat the Bulldogs 3-1 in Game 1 of the College World Series finals Monday night. Plutko retired nine straight to start, worked out of trouble twice and turned the game over to the bullpen in the seventh.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama basketball player Devonta Pollard has decided to withdraw from school after his arrest in connection to a child's kidnapping. Crimson Tide coach Anthony Grant said Monday that Pollard decided he needed to withdraw "so that he can be closer to his family during this difficult time."

SUNRIVER, Ore. (AP) — Rod Perry shot an even-par 72 in rainy conditions Monday at Sunriver Resort to take the second-round lead in the PGA Professional National Championship. Perry, the PGA head pro at Crane Lakes in Port Orange, Fla., had two birdies and two bogeys on the Crosswater Club course, the site of the final two rounds.
