ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The first American League game in Arlington between the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros has been won by the home team. The Rangers got a grand slam from Nelson Cruz and homers from David Murphy and Adrian Beltre in the 10-5 victory over their in-state rivals. Nick Tepesch took a shutout into the sixth.

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Rockets are getting their big man in the middle. Dwight Howard posted on Twitter that he's signing with the Rockets. The acquisition gives Houston a potentially potent inside-outside combination with All-Star James Harden. Howard is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers after one season.

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks lost out to their in-state rivals, the Houston Rockets, to get Dwight Howard's services. But they moved quickly to grab free agent point guard Jose Calderon instead. He agreed to a four-year, $28 million deal with the Mavericks yesterday. Calderon spent his first seven years with Toronto before the Raptors traded him to Detroit in January.

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Stars have added some depth at goaltender. Dan Ellis signed a two-year, $1.8 million contract, likely to back up Kari Lehtonen. It was a busy week for the Stars, who also have traded to acquire three centers.
