DETROIT (AP) — Detroit's Max Scherzer can improve to 14-0 tonight when he takes the mound at Comerica Park against the Texas Rangers, who are 0-4 lifetime against the right-hander. Scherzer can still equal the 14-0 start of the 1986 season by Roger Clemens.

NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Jeter's return to the Yankees line-up lasted less than one game. The team captain suffered a strained right quadriceps during his season debut Thursday against Kansas City and has been sidelined for the rest of the Yanks-Royals games this weekend.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Michael Allen is threatening to run away with the U.S. Senior Open. His round of 63 was one off the U.S. Senior Open record of 62 by Loren Roberts in 2006 and Allen starts today with a five-shot lead over Rocco Mediate (MEE'-dee-ayt).

SILVIS, Ill. (AP) — Defending champion Zach Johnson, Patrick Reed and Lucas Glover start third round play at the PGA's John Deere Classic tied for the lead at12 under par. They have a one shot lead over Matt Jones.

TORONTO (AP) — Dario Franchitti (DAH'-ree-oh fran-KEE'-tee) is starting today's IndyCar race in the streets of Toronto from the pole. He grabbed the top spot yesterday after being involved in a small crash in the morning.
