UNDATED (AP) — Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy hasn't had to explain to his team how difficult its season opener will be. Instead, he showed players film of Mississippi State and let them "make those decisions on their own." The Cowboys open the season Saturday against the Bulldogs in Houston.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Jeff Scott scored on a 75-yard touchdown run with 1:07 left, and Mississippi rallied twice Thursday to beat Vanderbilt 39-35. Vanderbilt went up 35-32 on a 34-yard TD pass from Austyn Carta-Samuels to Steven Scheu with 1:30 left. But Scott beat the Commodores for a TD and the fourth lead change.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Tulane defense shined in the season opener Thursday, coming up with four pass interceptions and two fumble recoveries in a 34-7 rout over Jackson State in the season opener for both schools. The Green Wave defense held the Tigers to just 112 yards rushing.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Todd Monken is beginning his coaching career at Southern Mississippi with a little gamesmanship. The Golden Eagles have had a four-man quarterback battle throughout preseason camp, and Monken says a winner has emerged. He's just not going to say who will take the field when Southern Miss hosts Texas State on Saturday.
