PITTSBURGH (AP) — Florida State gave Pittsburgh a glimpse of what it will take to reach the top of the ACC in a 41-13 loss on Monday night.

The Panthers understand the climb will be a long one, but they may have found a few helping hands in defeat. From the play of freshmen Tyler Boyd and James Conner to the resilience of quarterback Tom Savage, Pitt believes there is cause for optimism.

Boyd led the Panthers with 54 yards rushing and nearly broke a kickoff return for a touchdown while Conner ran for 34 yards. Savage's first game in nearly three years was a mixed bag, though coach Paul Chryst praised Savage for his toughness.

The Panthers have the week off before hosting New Mexico on Sept. 14.
