DENVER (AP) — Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has aggravated the sprained joint on his right middle finger during a minor league rehab assignment and likely will have to deal with the nagging injury for the rest of the season.
With this week's expansion of the active rosters, the Rockies decided to activate Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list anyway. They will look to play him again in a game once the pain and swelling in the joint abates.
Manager Walt Weiss says he'll pick his spots to play Gonzalez, leaning on him to let him know how he feels. He says his finger is not going to heal until the offseason.
Gonzalez went on the DL retroactive to Aug. 5 and has missed 26 games while dealing with the issue.
The Rockies hosted the Dodgers on Tuesday night.
