PINEVILLE, La. (AP) — Pineville High School's basketball coach has resigned at the beginning of what would have been his seventh season.

The Town-Talk reports (http://townta.lk/17VyFke ) that Pineville High's principal, Karl Carpenter, confirmed the resignation of Corey Simon on Friday. The reason for the resignation wasn't given.

Carpenter said he planned to make further decisions in the next couple of days about naming an interim coach and hiring Simon's replacement.

Simon was hired as Pineville's coach in 2007 after seven seasons at Glenmora, the first four as an asisstant. He was named The Town Talk's Coach of the Year for the 2010-2011 season after guiding the Rebels to the Class 5A quarterfinals.
