SEVILLE, Spain (AP) — Lucie Safarova has kept the Czech Republic's Fed Cup hopes alive, beating Silvia Soler-Espinosa of Spain 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 to leave the outcome of the best-of-five series to the final doubles match.
Safarova rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the deciding set, saving a break point in the sixth game before serving out the victory on the clay. Neither player had originally been scheduled to play, but were substituted at the last minute by their captains.
Doubles will decide which nation reaches the semifinals after rain forced the series to be completed on Monday, when gusty wind was a factor.
Earlier, the Czechs had drawn even when Klara Zakopalova beat Maria Torro-Flor for 1-1, but Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro rallied to beat Zakopalova in the subsequent singles rubber.
