HEAT-SPURS

Duncan leads Spurs past Heat, 111-87

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Tim Duncan had 23 points and 11 rebounds, and the San Antonio Spurs never trailed against the Miami Heat, weathering a sluggish third quarter for an intense and emotional 111-87 victory Thursday.

Tony Parker scored 17 points, including 14 in a wild first half, Boris Diaw added 16 and Kawhi Leonard had 11 for San Antonio, which has won five straight.

Chris Bosh had 24 points, LeBron James added 19, Dwyane Wade had 16 and Michael Beasley 11 for Miami.

James, who ditched the protective mask he was wearing early in the first half, was hounded by Leonard into shooting 6 for 18.

CANUCKS-STARS

Seguin's hat trick leads Stars past Canucks, 6-1

DALLAS (AP) — Tyler Seguin had three goals and two assists to lead the Dallas Stars to a 6-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.

Jamie Benn, Alex Goligoski and Ryan Garbutt also scored for Dallas, which built a 5-0 lead. Kari Lehtonen made 31 saves, and Benn and Rich Peverley each had two assists.

Seguin scored twice in the first period, and completed his hat trick at 12:53 of the third. His third three-goal game this season tied Bill Guerin and Mike Modano for the Stars record.

Vancouver's Zac Dalpe scored at 18:15 of the second period.

Dallas solidified its hold on the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, improving to 9-3-2 in their last 14 goals.

The fading Canucks, 11th in the West, dropped to 1-10-1 in their last 12 and fell four points behind Dallas.

TEXAS SOUTHERN-ALCORN ST

Texas Southern puts away Alcorn State 77-69

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — Ray Penn scored 17 points, while Aaric Murray and Madarious Gibbs each added 14 as Texas Southern defeated Alcorn State 77-69 on Thursday night.

The Tigers shot 52.4 percent from the field, hit eight 3-pointers and had a 10-2 advantage in fastbreak points. Penn went 11 of 12 from the foul line and Murray was 10 of 14.

Alcorn State was held to 23-of-57 shooting and went 5 of 16 beyond the arc. Octavius Brown led the Braves with 23 points and LeAntwan Luckett had 16.

Texas Southern held a 34-29 halftime advantage, and pushed that lead to 15 with 7:45 remaining after a 15-4 run sparked by two Penn 3-pointers. Alcorn State trimmed their deficit to five after a layup by Luckett with 47 seconds left, but Penn followed with five straight free throws to seal it.

ORAL ROBERTS-STEPHEN F AUSTIN

Stephen F. Austin defeats Oral Roberts 83-72

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Thomas Walkup scored 16 points and Deshaunt Walker added 12 as Stephen F. Austin won its 32nd-straight home game with an 83-72 victory over Oral Roberts on Thursday night.

Stephen F. Austin is tied with Duke for the nation's longest home winning streak. The Lumberjacks have a 25-game winning streak, and end its regular season hosting Central Arkansas on Saturday.

Brandon Conley scored to pull Oral Roberts within three points, 54-51 with 14:31 remaining. SFA answered with a 13-2 run to take a 67-53 lead with 9:37 left and the Lumberjacks led by double digits the rest of the way.

Walkup was 4 of 5 from the field and 6 of 7 from the line. Walker made 4 of 9 field goals, including three 3-pointers. Desmond Haymon added 10 points with five assists.

Shawn Glover scored 16 points to lead Oral Roberts.

TULSA-NORTH TEXAS

Tulsa tops North Texas 79-68, shares C-USA title

DENTON, Texas (AP) — Rashad Ray and James Woodard each scored 18 points and Tulsa took down North Texas 79-68 Thursday to earn a share of the Conference USA regular season title.

Tulsa finished the regular season tied with Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech and Middle Tennessee atop the conference standings.

Shaquille Harrison added 15 points and Rashad Smith 14 for Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane pulled away down the stretch, using a 6-0 spurt to break a tie at 54 for a 60-54 lead with 7:59 left.

North Texas closed to within 61-59 on Brandan Walton's free throws, but Harrison responded with a pair of free throws and Ray's basket with 3:29 left stretched the lead to 65-59.

Tulsa hit 10 of 12 free throws over the final 3:11 to preserve the win.

Walton and Alzee Williams each scored 20 points to lead North Texas.

BKC-SE LOUISIANA-SAM HOUSTON ST

Sam Houston breezes past SE Louisiana 71-54

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Kaheem Ransom and Dakarai Henderson scored 11 points each as Sam Houston State executed its typical balanced attack in downing SE Louisiana 71-54 on Thursday night.

Michael Holyfield grabbed 13 rebounds and scored eight points for the Bearkats, while Paul Baxter also scored eight points and added 11 assists. The Bearkats shot 49 percent from the field.

Sam Houston State landed six 3s in the first half, the Lions netting just one, in building a 37-27 halftime lead. The Bearkats controlled the boards in the initial period 22-12 and gathered eight more offensive rebounds than Southeastern Louisiana.

Sam Houston scored the first eight points of the second half and Southeastern Louisiana failed to mount any comeback effort in the second half.

Antonnio Benton, Dre Evans and Onochie Ochie scored 11 points each in the SE Louisiana effort.

NEW ORLEANS-LAMAR

Hilliard leads Lamar over New Orleans 89-70

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Nimrod Hilliard scored 19 points and dished out 11 assists to help Lamar snap a seven-game losing skid with an 89-70 victory over New Orleans on Thursday night.

Hilliard scored 12 points in the first half as Lamar took a 47-27 halftime lead. New Orleans pulled within 12 points, 72-60 with 7:01 to play but would not get any closer.

Hilliard was 5 of 13 from the field and 8 for 8 from the free-throw line. Anthony Holliday tied a career-high with 18 points and Amos Wilson added 17 points. Donovan Ross had 12 points and three steals for the Cardinals.

James Harrison scored 17 points and Kevin Hill added 11 with 11 rebounds to lead New Orleans, which has lost three-straight and four of its last five games.

TEXAS-ARLINGTON-TROY

Edwards' 33 and 19 lead UTA over Troy 87-86 in 2OT

TROY, Ala. (AP) — Brandon Edwards had 33 points and 19 rebounds to lead Texas-Arlington to an 87-86 double overtime victory at Troy on Thursday night.

Reger Dowell's 3-pointer, with 1:19 left in the second overtime, gave UT Arlington the lead for good at 82-80.

After Kevin Thomas' missed jumper left Troy down 84-81 with 26 seconds left, UTA extended to 87-83 and fouled Hunter Williams on a 3-point attempt with 3 seconds left.

Williams made the first two free throws and tried to miss the third on purpose, but the shot banked in and the Mavericks hung on for the one-point victory.

UTA had used a 19-0 run to pull ahead 63-49 with 6:35 left in the second half, and the Trojans answered with a 16-2 run to close out regulation tied at 65.

Hunter Williams had 25 points and Antoine Myers 21 to lead Troy.

TEXAS ST-SOUTH ALABAMA

South Alabama holds off Texas State 63-53

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Augustine Rubit scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as South Alabama avenged an overtime loss to Texas State earlier this season with a 63-53 win Thursday.

Antoine Allen added 13 points for South Alabama. The Jaguars never trailed and jumped to a 20-8 lead en route to a 31-18 halftime advantage. Rubit led South Alabama with 10 first-half points.

Texas State cut the lead to 52-48 with 5:12 left in the game, but Allen responded with a basket and Ken Williams' make extended the lead to 56-48 with 3:15 to play. Williams added a 3-pointer with 1:20 left to make it 61-53 as South Alabama held off the Bobcats.

Joel Wright, who had the game-winning free throws in Texas State's 67-66 OT win against the Jaguars on Feb. 20, scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Bobcats.

LOUISIANA TECH-RICE

Louisiana Tech controls a 70-48 win over Rice

HOUSTON (AP) — Chris Anderson scored 17 points and Jaron Johnson added 16 as Louisiana Tech grabbed a piece of the Conference USA title with a 70-48 victory over Rice on Thursday night.

Alex Hamilton chipped in 11 points and Kenneth Smith added nine assists for the Bulldogs, who share the top-spot in the Conference USA with Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss.

Louisiana Tech was ahead by seven at the half, but Rice went over 5 minutes in the second without a basket. Louisiana Tech took advantage of the Owls' dry spell with a 13-0 run that broke open the Bulldogs' lead, putting them up by 22 points and ahead for good.

Sean Obi and Keith Washington came off the bench to lead Rice in scoring. The Owls shot just 3 of 11 from the free-throw line and finished with 12 turnovers.

AMARILLO-SCHERTZ CLEMENS

Amarillo beats Schertz Clemens 60-46

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Braden Eggleston had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Amarillo jumped out to a big lead and held on late the fourth quarter for a 60-46 win over Schertz Clemens in the Class 4A semifinals Thursday night.

Amarillo led by 24 in the third quarter, only to see Schertz Clemens rally with a 20-5 run to cut the deficit under 10 in the fourth before fading in the final minutes.

John Hood added 15 points for Amarillo, which advanced to the championship in its first state tournament since 1986. Amarillo won its only state title that year, beating Dallas Kimball, which will be Saturday's opponent in the title game.

Sam Kearns scored 13 and Cayne Edwards scored 11 for Schertz Clemens.
