DALLAS (AP) — Erik Cole scored on a breakaway with 4:49 to play, and the Dallas Stars rallied to defeat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 Saturday night. Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen was injured in a collision with the Wild's Erik Haula at 6:37 of the third period. Haula was given a major penalty for charging and was ejected.

DALLAS (AP) — Mike Modano's Number 9 has been retired by the Dallas Stars in front of over 19,000 fans. The 43-year-old who made hockey cool in Dallas was joined on the ice at the end of a 50-minute ceremony by five of the biggest names in pro sports in the area, including former Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Mauro Diaz scored on a free kick and set up a penalty and FC Dallas opened the season with a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Impact Saturday night in coach Oscar Pareja's debut. Diaz helped Dallas take a 2-1 lead in the 24th minute when he was taken down in the box and set up a successful penalty kick.

HOUSTON (AP) — Will Bruin scored twice and added an assist to help the Houston Dynamo rout the New England Revolution 4-0 Saturday night in the season opener for both teams. Bruin had a chance for the hat trick in the 62nd minute with a breakaway against goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth, but the goalkeeper made a kick save.
