NEW ORLEANS (AP) — General manager Mickey Loomis and coach Sean Payton have orchestrated a considerable makeover for the New Orleans Saints, resulting in the departure of several players who were leaders on recent playoff teams. While the signing of free agents has largely filled that void, the Saints hope this week's NFL draft brings a few more instant contributors.

UNDATED (AP) — Michael Phelps will take another step in his comeback at a Grand Prix meet in Charlotte on May 16. His coach, Bob Bowman, tells The Associated Press on Monday that Phelps has entered the 100-meter butterfly and 200 freestyle at the Charlotte Grand Prix.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Clint Bowyer is heading home to Kansas Speedway this weekend with a new wife, a baby on the way and now a three-year contract extension that will keep him with Michael Waltrip Racing. The team announced the deal Monday, a day after Bowyer drove to a third-place finish at Talladega.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has added shooting guard Kevin Punter to its recruiting class. Punter is from Bronx, New York, and spent the last two years at State Fair Community College in Missouri. He plans to enroll at Tennessee this summer and will have two years of eligibility.
