ATLANTA (AP) — Ryan Howard capped a big series by driving in two runs with three hits and the Phillies battered Aaron Harang and the Braves 10-5 on Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep. Howard, who hit homers in each of the first two games of the series, drove in a run with a double in the Phillies' five-run second inning.

PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) — The sounds at Pinehurst No. 2 were the first indication that the second U.S. Open would not be exactly the same as the first one. The first day of practice for the U.S. Women's Open featured the clanging of workers removing half of the grandstands around the 18th green. The Women's Open gets started on Thursday in golf's version of a doubleheader.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have stocked up on linebackers this offseason, and they're letting them compete to see who wins starting jobs in new defensive coordinator Ray Horton's defense. They signed veterans Shaun Phillips and Wesley Woodyard in free agency, added the linebacker designation to defensive ends Derrick Morgan and Kamerion Wimbley.

BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) — The NASCAR season is less than half over and already it is fair to ask if anyone can catch Hendrick Motorsports. After five straight Sprint Cup victories — including three by Jimmie Johnson — Hendrick now holds the top three spots in the points standings, and even rival driver Brad Keselowski concedes that when it comes to engines, at least, nothing is likely to change.
