PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Big East was a Big Bust on the first day of the NCAA tournament. Fourteenth-ranked Ohio upset third-seeded Georgetown, while six seeds Notre Dame and Marquette also fell to lower seeded teams. Villanova was the only Big East team to advance, and it needed overtime to get past mid-major Robert Morris.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Two of the favorites are off to strong starts in the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Lehigh put up a struggle, but ultimately proved no match for top ranked Kansas, losing 90-74 in the Midwest Region. The Jayhawks face Northern Iowa next. Meanwhile, Kentucky blew out East Tennessee State 100-71 in the East. The Wildcats get Wake Forest Saturday.

BOSTON (AP) — The revenge-minded Boston Bruins beat the Pittsburgh Penguins with their fists, but the Pens got it done with their sticks. Marc-Andre Fleury recorded his first shutout of the season in Pittsburgh's 3-0 victory. It was the first meeting between the teams since Matt Cooke gave the Bruins' Mark Savard a grade 2 concussion with a blindside hit.

TORONTO (AP) — Anaheim Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski (wihz-NOO'-skee) has been suspended for eight games without pay for a hit to the head on Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook. The NHL's chief disciplinarian Colin Campbell says Seabrook "never had possession of the puck," and describes the hit as "retaliatory."

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — Garrett Willis is making the most of a sponsor exemption. He birdied five holes on the back nine for a 6-under 65 and the first-round lead at the Transitions Championship in his hometown, Palm Harbor, Fla. Defending champion Retief Goosen (reh-TEEF' GOO'-sin) is two strokes back along with five others.
