JOHANNESBURG (AP) — The South African cricket board says national team captain Graeme Smith should return to full fitness in four weeks and be ready for the start of the ICC World Twenty20 tournament.

Doctors have reviewed x-rays of Smith's fractured finger and say surgery would not be needed, Cricket South Africa said in a statement late Thursday.

Smith injured the finger while taking a catch for his Rajasthan Royals Indian Premier League team earlier this week, but is now expected be available for the Proteas' first World Twenty20 game in the West Indies on May 2.

Smith said on his Twitter page he would have a splint on his finger for four weeks.

South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee said Smith will have a further x-ray on Tuesday to monitor his recovery.
