Alleva: Will be 'very difficult' to reschedule Florida game

Florida, LSU and the Southeastern Conference didn't close the door on the schools playing later this football season after their game was postponed by Hurricane Matthew, but nobody should be holding their breath in expectation of the Gators and Tigers actually meeting on the field in 2016.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva made the blunt assessment Friday.

"No, I think it's going to be very difficult," Alleva said during an interview with ESPN 104.5. "The scenarios down the road would require some serious changes in schedule."

Nov. 19 has been floated as a potential date. Florida is hosting Presbyterian, and LSU is scheduled to play South Alabama at home. Both teams could buyout those games which would clear the schedule.

Alleva disputed a report that LSU refused to play on that date and said he has not talked to anyone at Florida about the possibility.

"That's a flat out lie," Alleva said of the tweet from ESPN's Brett McMurphy. "It's a perfect example of terrible journalism. He didn't call me, he didn't call (LSU associate athletic director) Michael Bonnette. He tweeted out that garbage."
