LSU and Alabama set for prime-time on CBS

BATON ROUGE - Since Alabama began beating LSU consistently - five straight games beginning with the 2011 season BCS national championship game - many LSU fans like to transfer blame to the fact that the Southeastern Conference office is in Birmingham, Alabama, which is just 45 miles from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

But the SEC office was good to LSU on Monday. The league and CBS decided LSU could play at its favorite time of day - at night. No. 1 Alabama (8-0, 5-0 SEC) will play No. 19 LSU (5-2, 3-1 SEC) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, on CBS in Tiger Stadium, and the SEC office named tailback Leonard Fournette and center Ethan Pocic offensive player of the week and offensive lineman of the week, respectively. And all that less than two weeks after the SEC gave LSU an extra home game this season with the postponement and move of the Florida game, originally scheduled for Oct. 8 in Gainesville, Florida, to Tiger Stadium on Nov. 19.

LSU was given the CBS night kickoff for its home Alabama game for the third straight time. The LSU-Alabama game on Nov. 5 will be the nightcap of a SEC doubleheader on CBS. At 2:30 p.m. Saturday, No. 12 Florida (5-1, 3-1 SEC) will play at Arkansas (5-3, 1-3 SEC). Both LSU and Alabama are open this weekend. The Tigers are coming off a 38-21 win over No. 22 Ole Miss, while the Crimson Tide defeated No. 6 Texas A&M, 33-14.

Fournette, a junior from New Orleans, set a school record on Saturday with 284 yards on 16 carries with touchdown runs of 59, 76 and 78 yards. Pocic, meanwhile, was a vital cog in the Tigers gaining 515 total yards, including 311 on the ground. A senior from Lemont, Illinois, Pocic graded out at a career-best 97 percent and had 12 knockdown blocks.

Fournette and Pocic became the fifth sixth LSU players this season to be honored by the league. Previous players honored by the league were cornerback Tre'Davious White, defensive end Arden Key, punter Josh Growden and tailback Derrius Guice.
