Fifth-round pick Pressley out for season

04:37 PM CDT on Sunday, July 27, 2008

Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. -- Defensive tackle DeMario Pressley was placed on injured reserve by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, forcing the fifth-round draft pick to miss his rookie season.

By Stan Gilliland / The Associated Press

N.C. State defensive tackle DeMario Pressley, 92, was the Saints first pick in the fifth round in the 2008 NFL draft.

He fractured his right foot in practice Saturday.

The 6-foot-3, 301-pound Pressley was the first of the team's two fifth-round selections, taken 144th overall out of North Carolina State.

Placing Pressley on injured reserve opened a roster spot, which the Saints filled by signing free agent defensive end Marquies Gunn.

Gunn spent parts of 2007 on the practice squads of the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
