Jim Chat Part 2

07:55 PM CDT on Monday, July 28, 2008

KYLE NORTON: DO YOU THINK ARRINGTON HAS THE BEST CHANCE OF MAKING THE TEAM OVER GREEN, MOORE ,AND COPPER

Henderson: Better chance than Green. Less of a chance than Moore and Copper. There's always the practice squad available to Arrington.

Zero468: How many cut downs until we all say farewell to Devery?

Henderson: Last cut. He goes in the last cut.

Jethro: Jim -- Will our secondary be terrible AGAIN this year? We won't be winning any Superbowls until we fix this persistent problem!

Henderson: Secondary is a major concern. It's the most worrisome point about the team. Besides McKenzie, there's no proven playmakers.

Colston 4 President: Is Adrian Arrington a possible sleeper candidate for the #2 WR?

Henderson: He'd have to have a fantastic camp for that to happen. It happened two years ago with Marques Colston, another seventh-round draft choice. It's certainly possible, but they're deeper at that position now than they were then. If  he were to make the 53-man roster, that'd be a tremendous accomplishment.

shane: Does Adrian Arlington look the same way Colston did a couple years ago, If so do you think he has the potenial to be just as good or better..Who has the ups in the Kicker position competition at this point?????

Henderson: Colston was a more physical receiver because he has more size - he's taller, stronger. Arrington has more deep speed than Colston showed. But in many other ways, they're similar. The thing you noticed about Colston is how strong his hands were as a rookie. Arrington seems to have the same kind of hands. And Mehlhaff has the edge.

DeuceFan: Is Safety a big question mark on defense? Will the combination of Bullocks,Harper, Kavesharn, Reis, and Harris be enough to stop the big play even with a pass rush?

Henderson: A lot better pass rush will certainly help. The Saints may need a very good pass rush with those guys back there. They just aren't around the football enough.

felix: Jim is there anything you have learned about this team that you did not know 1 week ago

Henderson: That's a good question. Nothing really leaps out. There's not really a total unknown to surface. It's still so early.

Jeremy: What is the contract status of Sean Payton?  Did he originally sign a 3 or 4 year deal?  Any word about a possible extension?

Henderson: I believe this is the last year of his initial contract. As I recall, it was a three-year deal. That's one of the reasons the Saints have been so bold, such as the Shockey deal. This is an important year for Sean. Is he the coach of the year from 2006 or is he the coach who fell out of favor with some Saints fans in 2007? This is a big year for Sean.

DeuceFan: A lot have been said about Bushrod? Does he really have the talent to to become the future startiing LT for the team?

Henderson: We really haven't seen him play the position live. But I know this - Doug Marrone loves the guy and thinks he has terrific upside.

djw_williams: Jim, is the kicker spot really wide-open or is the rookie gonna be booting the balls for ht eblack and gold this year

djw_williams: I can't believe no one has asked this questions yet but how is shockey looking and what does BRess think of him?

Henderson: I think Shockey has looked excellent. I'm sure Brees is delighted to have him. He gives him a great target and presents tremendous matchup problems in the red zone, an area where the Saints excelled last year.

Kenny: The Times Picayune reported that Jason David is having a good camp.  I was out there Friday and Saturday and did not see any real progress.  Am I blind?

Henderson: It's hard to see everything at one practice and we don't see every practice. I only see the morning practice, which makes it uncomfortable sometimes on passing judgment on the entire body of work. All I can say is I'm not impressed, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been impressive at other time.

Bradley (Moderator): Fans, thanks for joining us today. Sorry for the brevity of the chat today, but it's time to get back out to practice. Join us again later in the week for another Camp Chat.
