Henderson: Talent, character levels at all- time high

After the first few days at Saints Training Camp, I can say, without question, that the talent and character levels are the highest I’ve ever seen for a Saints team.

Jim Henderson, WWL-TV Sports Director.
I’m really impressed with the character of this club and the good guys that they’ve brought on board.
Eventually, those high levels of talent and character will win them some games.
Biggest position battle in camp
The secondary has tremendous depth, with free agents Jason David and Kevin Kaesviharn, and rookie Usama Young, joining the group. Those guys are competing for starting jobs. At the safety position, I’m really impressed with what I’ve seen from Kaesviharn; I think he ultimately gets the nod over Roman Harper, but I would not be surprised if (Kaesviharn) ends up being the free safety instead of Josh Bullocks.
The biggest area of concern to me, however, is the defensive tackle position. They were not good against the run last season, giving up 4.9 yards per attempt and averaging nearly 129 yards per game. With the injury to Brian Young and continuing issues with Hollis Thomas’ weight, I think they’re not looking good right now.
Impressed by Lance Moore
This wide receiver will make a serious contribution to the team. I believe he’ll be the kick returner and share punt return duties with Reggie Bush, and he’ll also make an impact in the passing game, which Michael Lewis never really could do.
David Patten has looked solid thus far and I anticipate he’ll find a spot on the final roster. Sean Payton loves players like Patten: good locker room guy and still has something left in the tank.
