Saints will not perform below expectations Sunday

11:16 AM CDT on Friday, September 29, 2006

I think this game will tell you a lot about the Saints.

Considering the environment last Monday Night, I don't think anyone could have beaten them. It was much like the Saints going into New York in 2001 as the first opponent for the Giants after 9-11. In that case and this one, you were playing against more than just a team, you were facing an entire city, perhaps an entire nation.

I think ESPN's Michael Wilbon said it best: It was a crusade.

Saints have had success in Carolina

Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina, at least for the Saints recently. They've won five of the last six in Charlotte. This year's Panthers team has their big gun Steve Smith back in the fold and their defense is looking pretty good again.

What's ailing them is their offensive line. Jake Delhomme was pressured often against Tampa Bay and he's been looking a bit erratic, throwing high and long, throws that can often hang up long enough to be intercepted.

Don't expect Saints to have a letdown

I'm not saying they'll win, but I don't look for a big letdown. What will be lacking in emotion compared to Monday's game will be made up in confidence that this team now believes it is good and can play with anyone.

These next few games will tell a lot as they move into the meat of their schedule.
