03:24 PM CST on Monday, January 28, 2008
Tulane senior running back Matt Forte earned MVP honors at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday. Forte, who ran for more than 2,000 yards and 23 touchdowns this season, finished the game with 59 yards on eight carries and caught a game-high four passes for 38 yards.
Forte helped the South team to a last-second 17-16 win over the North team in Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge tossed a 13-yard pass to Forte near the end of the game, setting up the game-winning touchdown by Florida’s Andre Caldwell.
Forte became the first Tulane player to earn individual honors at the Senior Bowl since former Green Wave quarterback Patrick Ramsey won offensive MVP honors at the 2002 all-star game. Ramsey was drafted in the first round by the Washington Redskins.
