Well my friends, Saints football has arrived, and hopefully ESPN will stop covering Brett Favre so we can watch the Saints play the Arizona Cardinals. Of course, don’t bet on this actually happening.
Expect that about ten minutes into the game you’ll want to jam a pen into your ears so you won’t have to listen to Tony Kornheiser and Ron Jaworski talk about Brett Favre as a Buccaneer. Or you could just drink more of your favorite beverage.
I’ll be doing the latter.
But it is Saints football and that’s never a bad thing. So here are five things I’ll be looking for.
- Will Robert Meachem make Saints fans giddy about the offense’s potential?
If all the glowing stories I’ve read are accurate he just might. I’m hoping for a moment similar to when Deuce was replacing the traded Ricky Williams and everyone was wondering if he could do the job. Then, in his first preseason game he had four carries and 75 yards and the answer was…certainly.
With Marques Colston being held out Meachem should get a chance to show his stuff. If Meachem can be a 40-50 catch guy the Saints passing offense goes from good to Super Bowl quality.
- Is the Saints defensive line really good or the offensive line really bad?
The reports say that the Saints D-line has been crushing the offensive line in practice. It might be because the Saints have three 1st round picks and Bobby McCray looks like a great addition. Let’s hope that’s it and not that the Saints have a new center and the offensive line has regressed.
- Can Skyler Green run his way onto the team?
It’s really simple for Green: he needs to return a kick for a score to make the team. He’s an LSU guy so I’m hoping he does it.
- Will Jason David continue to be the fans favorite scape goat?
Reports from camp have not been good for David and let Matt Lienart complete a couple of passes his way and it will be same as it ever was which will be bad for Jason and Saints fans sanity.
- No matter what happens against Arizona, always remember if the Saints avoid injuries then it’s a good night. Oh and if the Brett Favre saga could actually get wrapped up that’d be swell too because if he goes to Tampa we have to deal with this all over again in four weeks.
