Kincaid: Much better showing

10:55 PM CDT on Friday, August 10, 2007

Juan Kincaid / WWL-TV Sports Reporter

This was a much better showing than last week. I think the Saints got exactly what they wanted out of this game. The emphasis was to play sharp and they did on both sides of the ball – at least with the first unit.

The first team took advantage of their opportunities and although they couldn’t get it into the end zone, they moved it well on both possessions.

The defense played a lot better too.

Yes, Buffalo was a lesser opponent than Pittsburgh, but you don’t play the opponent in preseason as much you try to gauge your own team.

Observations:

Lance Moore had a fantastic game and probably solidified his hold on the sixth receiver spot. Terrance Copper looked good also and showed his value to the team both on special teams and at receiver.

Dhani Jones played well at linebacker and showed that we have some solid players at that spot.

We still haven’t seen a lot of Robert Meachem, though he did have two catches and the touchdown grab.

I was surprised that Palko played the last three quarters, but I don’t read anything in to that. Fife or Baker or both will likely see some good minutes next week.

Palko has to get used to NFL defensive changes and I think that hurt him tonight. He appeared fooled a couple of times and had the two mistakes.

I’d like to see Deuce get a few more touches and I think he will next week.
