The New Orleans VooDoo Arena Football League team is terminating its operations, owner Tom Benson announced Monday.

Benson informed the Arena League of his plans to terminate the team saying it was not an indictment on the New Orleans market, but said it was the right decision based on ‘circumstances currently affecting the league and the team.’

The press release issued by the club doesn’t specifically state the reasons for ending the team, which has had solid fan support to the extent that the league has awarded its past two championship games to the city.

“It’s a sad day for our community, and our organization,” said Executive Vice-President and Owner Rita Benson-LeBlanc.
