Back-up guard Mike James was sent to the Washington Wizards as part of a three team deal that nets the Hornets Washington guard Antonio Daniels.
“AD has always been a steady, proven guard in this league.” said Hornets Head Coach Byron Scott. “He has won at the highest level and is a clutch player; he also gives us a different look in the backcourt with his size.”
The Hornets also received a future second round draft pick as part of the deal, according to the Hornets, which they received from the Memphis Grizzlies. The pick is not for this season, according to Hornets GM Jeff Bower, but sometime in the future.
“We are excited to get a player of Antonio’s caliber,” said Bower. “He is a guard with excellent size, versatility and toughness. Daniels is also a proven veteran who has won a championship and we look forward to all of those attributes strengthening our bench."
The deal sent Memphis guard Javaris Crittenton to Washington, and Memphis gets a first round pick.
Daniels has averaged 5.1, 1.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game through 13 games and five starts with the Wizards.
Officials with the Hornets said that Daniels will be in New Orleans Thursday, he will take a physical and the team hopes to have him in uniform soon.
Daniels was originally selected fourth overall from Bowling Green University in the 1997 draft by the Vancouver Grizzlies. He spent time with five NBA teams, the Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle Sonics and the Wizards. He won a title with the Spurs in 1998-99.
