NEW ORLEANS -- The new sheriff of Wasington Parish wasted no time making good on his campaign promise to clean up the parish jail.

Sheriff Randy 'Country' Seal conducted a massive shakedown of the jail in Franklinton just 13 hours after taking the oath of office.

He said all the inmates were handcuffed and removed from the jail, and tactical teams from other prisons joined his officers to root out all this contraband in a thorough search.

They came away with a jailhouse knife, three cell phones, a charger, some hydrocodone pills and other contraband.

Seal said he just wants to make the jail safe.

'There were a lot of inmates happy with what we did last night because you know at any prison there's only a few controlling the others,' he said. 'So the others were very happy that we were able to find these contraband and get it out of our jail.

He said he's sending a message that he's serious about cleaning up crime in Washington Parish.
