NEWORLEANS-- New Orleans police are investigating two separate shootings within an hour of each other in Central City that left two men dead and one injured late Saturday evening.

Police officers responded to a call just before 11 p.m. on Second and South Roman streets. A 35-year-old man was found lying on the corner suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

According to police, the victim had been carrying drugs, though they didn't specify what type.

About one hour later, officers were called to the scene of another shooting at Eighth and Baronne streets. A 43-year-old man was found lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to his body, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

A 37-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the hip and was transported to the hospital.

The identities of both victims are being withheld pending notification of family members.
