VIOLET, La. -- A Violet man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly drove a car into a ditch and home inSt. Bernard Parish, killing a passenger and injuring three children in the back seat.

The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. on La. 39 north, near mile post 36.3.

According to Louisiana State Police, Samuel Hampton Jr., 38, drove a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro off the road and into a ditch. The vehicle overturned and struck a home.

Hampton was wearing a seat belt and suffered moderate injuries. One passenger, 46-year-old Victor Major, wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Police pronounced Major dead on the scene.

Three children -- ages 4, 10 and 11 -- suffered moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital.

Toxicology results are pending, but police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Police haven't released any details on what charges Hampton will face, but officials said they are pending.
