COVINGTON, La. - The police officer at the center of the referee arrest controversy in Covington has turned in his retirement papers.

Sgt. Stephen Short had a pre-disciplinary hearing yesterday with Chief Tim Lentz regarding a second investigation stemming from the arrest incident from October. Lentz says after that hearing, Short went to City Hall and filed his retirement paperwork.

Lentz says the move will effectively bring an end to everything, including both the appeal of the discipline Short received for the referees arrest, and the investigation he was under for possible charges of improperly accessing police department recordings for his appeal of the first punishment.
