SLIDELL -- The Slidell Police Department is investigating a house party gone wrong that left one man in critical condition, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said the 26-year-old man is still in critical condition following an 'ambush type of shooting' that happened July 20. The party was held to celebrate a girl's acceptance into college, according to police, but it turned violent when shots rang out.
'This was an ambush type of shooting,' Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said. 'The victim never saw it coming.'
Around 2 a.m. that morning, police responded to reports of gunfire near the corner of Daney Street and Tenth Street. Police said they found a 26-year-old man lying in a driveway with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was rushed to the hospital where he is still in critical condition, after nearly a week of treatment.
Police said they are releasing limited details while they investigate the incident. However, police said gunshots rang out after an verbal argument occurred between the 26-year-old victim and another person at the party.
Police said the bullets came from a lightly wooded area, where the shooter tried to conceal themselves.
'We are praying for him and hoping he pulls through,' Chief Smith said.
