WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. -- The New Orleans Saints have signed former New York Giants tight end Travis Beckum to a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.
Beckum joined the team for its final day of practices at The Greenbrier, wearing number 81. The signing rounds out the Saints' 90-man roster. Tight end Robert Quinn, whom the Saints signed last week, retired after practice on Monday.
Head coach Sean Payton said he doesn't know much about Beckum yet, but added, 'he'll have opportunities (to play).'
Additionally, Payton credited the scouting department for identifying Beckum as an option after Quinn retired.
'(Director of Scouting) Ryan (Pace) and those guys do a great job,' he said.
Beckum, a third-round draft choice out of Wisconsin in 2009, had 26 receptions for 264 yards and three touchdowns over his four-year career with the Giants.
He played in 48 games with four starts before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament at the end of Super Bowl XLVI in 2011. He hasn't played since.
