DONALDSONVILLE, La. -- Donaldsonville High football coach and Athletic Director Gary Adkins has resigned from those jobs.

Adkins, who coached the Tigers to a 36-19 record in five seasons, said Tuesday he was told two weeks ago by the administration. the school was looking to "move in a different direction." He remains on the school staff as a teacher.

The Ascension Parish School Board accepted Adkins' resignation at its regular meeting Tuesday.

Adkins led the Tigers to a 9-1 record and a berth in the playoffs last fall. Donaldsonville was ranked in the top 10 in Class 2A for most of the season and lost 26-7 to Loyola-Shreveport in the regional playoff round.

Before taking the Donaldsonville job, Adkins had head coaching stints at White Castle, Port Allen and St. Michael.
