CHALMETTE, La. Two St. Bernard parish government employees have been fired after deputies arrested them for stealing property to cut up and sell as scrap, authorities said.

Glenn Rocher, 31, and Rickey Diecidue, 53, were booked with felony theft, according to a news release from St. Bernard Parish Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann.

Both men worked in the road department of the parish's Public Works Division.

Rocher was booked Jan. 5 after deputies received a tip about him cutting up stolen light poles in his back yard.Deputies found the stolen property in his yard and further investigation led them to Diecidue, whom Pohlmann identified as Rocher's accomplice.

An investigation showed Diecidue had sold $10,000 worth of aluminum to a scrap yard over the past several weeks, Pohlmann said.

Parish president David Peralta, who like Pohlmann is just weeks into his first term in office, credited cooperation between the sheriff's office and parish government for leading to arrests in the case.

Peralta said other unsolved thefts of light poles, bleachers and other parish property are still under investigation.

The two men have been released on bond.
