LACOMBE, La. A woman was killed Wednesday after hitting the trailer of an 18 wheeler that was attempting to make an illegal U-turn, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Around 8:30 p.m., Ahmed Farah, 29, was traveling east on U.S. 190 when he tried to make a U-turn in a curve in the roadway.
As Farah's 18-wheeler was positioned across the roadway, Ruth Hawley, 86, entered the curve traveling west in a sedan, police said.
Hawley hit the trailer and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.
Farah was not injured and was booked in the St. Tammany Parish Jail on charges of prohibited turning in a curve and negligent homicide, police said.
Louisiana law prohibits drivers from turning in a curve or upon the crest of a hill where the turning vehicle is not visible to drivers approaching from either direction within 500 feet.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts and alcohol/drug impairment is not suspected, according to police.
