PLAQUEMINESPARISH, La. - In Plaquemines Parish on Friday, volunteers are doing their part to help re-build the state's disappearing wetlands.

Crews will plant cypress trees on land that has accumulated near the Caernarvon Diversion.

A restored cypress forest will provide critical habitat for wildlife and offer projection to the adjacent marsh and communities during storms, officials said.

The project is sponsored by the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana and the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation.
