NEW ORLEANS -- Social media was buzzing with the news of the Hubig's Pie factory fire, to say the least, and on Twitter the topic was trending both locally and nationally.

The word in Twittersphere spread just as quickly as the fire Friday morning, with journalists across the country taking notice early.

Around 5 a.m. Maya Rodriguez Tweeted that the reported fire was at the iconic Hubig's Pie factory.

WWLTV.com's tweets were quickly retweeted by journalists like Norfolk news anchor Blaine Stewart. South Florida television station WINK tweeted the news shortly after.

When we posted the fire was upgraded to a five alarm, we got dozens of retweets and advice from B.Ford Bounce city to buy Hubig's Pies soon.

And so the race began, as Jesse C. Brooks posted a picture, tweeting 'he made sure to buy some before he left for Pensacola.'

Streetcar Honky tweeted at 8:04 a.m. that Walgreens had sold out in 15 minutes.

Shantel said at 8:24 a.m. she was late for work running around town looking for a Hubig's Pie.

Mr. Clio told Tweeters at 8:40 a.m. that a Discount Zone had just gotten a shipment of Hubig's Pies and had 40 left.

And then came pictures of empty shelves, like one from Elizabeth F. saying there are no more Hubig's Pies left on the open market.

And by 9:59 a.m., USA Today had Tweeted the news to its 348,000 followers with a link to their story on the burned New Orleans business.

And the posts are still coming with information, pictures and comments, flooding both Twitter and Facebook.
