NEW ORLEANS The New Orleans Saints cut receiver Adrian Arrington on Saturday, one of six moves the team made to get its roster in order following the three-member appeals panel ruling a day earlier.

Fullback Korey Hall also was cut and offensive tackle Marcel Jones was placed on injured reserve with a left knee injury.

In an expected move, the Saints activated defensive end Will Smith from the reserve/suspended list after the panel vacated the suspensions NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell levied in relation to the league's bounty investigation.

Interim head coach Aaron Kromer said during this past week that if eligible, Smith would need only a day to be ready for Sunday's season opener against Washington.

Meanwhile, the team placed linebackers Barrett Ruud and Jonathan Vilma on the exempt-commissioner's permission list.

But the move to release Arrington comes after the receiver had a chance to earn playing time. With receiver Robert Meachem leaving the club in free agency, Arrington was set for the fourth receiver spot.

However, prior to the first preseason game, Arrington underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He had only returned to full practice this past Monday. By Thursday, he was listed as 'did not participate' after waking up with a sore right knee.
