Governor Bobby Jindal has gotten lots of national publicity for his critical post-election comments about Mitt Romney and the Republican Party. That's the topic of this week's Commentary by Eyewitness News Political Analyst and Gambit columnist Clancy DuBos.

After campaigning for months across America for Mitt Romney, Gov. Bobby Jindal waited barely a week before criticizing Romney and laying down some new rules for the Republican Party.

Jindal now says Republicans must stop being what he calls 'the stupid party' and start showing women and minorities that they genuinely care. Not just with slogans, he says, but with specific policies.

I totally agree with that message. What I find strange is that Bobby Jindal is the messenger.

After all, Jindal has embraced every extreme position of the GOP's right wing from teaching creationism in public schools to refusing to expand Medicaid coverage in Louisiana, even though we have hundreds of thousands of poor people needing health care.

Meanwhile, the governor continues to deny the obvious: that he's already running for president. When questioned about that, he claims he has the job he wants.

And yet, he spends so little of his time actually doing that job.

If Bobby Jindal wants to be president, the smart thing for him to do would be to focus all his attention on Louisiana not just when there's a lull on the national scene. Because when he runs for president, you can bet the world will take a long, hard look at his record here at home.
