The body found in the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday has been positively identified as that of the missing worker from the oil platform that exploded last week.

Dr. John C. King, the Coroner of Lafourche Parish, announced that the body was identified as that of Jerome Malagapo, 28, of the Philippines.

The Black Elk platform exploded last week, killing three and severely injuring three others.

Identification was made by dental records obtained with the assistance of the Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines.

The Jefferson Parish Regional Forensic Center in Harvey, La. assisted the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office in performing the necessary forensic testing and autopsy.

The cause and manner of death at present time is pending further investigations by the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office.
