NEW ORELANS -- A New Orleans tradition is celebrating a big birthday. Radio station WWOZ turned 32 years old on Tuesday.

WWOZ 90.7 went on the air as New Orleans' community radio station in 1980.

In the first couple of years of existence the station broadcast from Tipitina's Uptown and later moved to Armstrong Park before finally taking up residence in the French Market.

The station is listener supported and volunteer programmed, and it's the official station of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation.
